Do You Feel Lost, Empty & Directionless?

by | Aug 21, 2017 | Personal Growth

Are you feeling down and out? Like you don’t know who you are anymore? Like you have a life purpose but aren’t fulfilling it? These feelings are completely normal, and guess what? We’ve all been there! I know it can be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel; so if you’re feeling empty, lost, or directionless, you’ve stumbled across the right page. Personal growth therapy may be the answer.

What exactly is the point of personal growth therapy?

Personal growth involves all aspects of a person’s life: mental, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual. The goal of personal growth therapy is to take responsibility for and transform the direction of your life in all of these aspects.

Sounds great… so how do we do that?

Personal growth therapy requires a lot of effort and dedication but is well worth the outcome. The first step in personal growth therapy is to understand your feelings when you’re feeling empty, lost, or directionless. You might  be totally in the dark about the underlying reasons for feeling the way you do. For example, most people assume that feelings of emptiness are brought on by external sources: not having a spouse who loves them, not having enough friends, not having a job that fulfills them, etc. While those are all valid reasons to be unhappy, they are not the sole source of your emptiness.

Sometimes feelings of emptiness can stem from not knowing who you are. Together we can discover who you are at your core and you can really get to know your true self. What are your likes and dislikes? What are your morals and values? Do you have any life goals? Do you have a hard time loving yourself? Do you put others before yourself? We can establish what patterns have brought you to this point in your life. We’ll figure out what in your past has led you to this very moment – seeking help because you feel lost, empty, or directionless. I can help you gain insight and clarity that can lead you toward self-empowerment and fulfillment in your life.

Next, we can begin to discover the HOW

It’s important to know that your past does not have to dictate your future. The purpose of your past is to grow, to learn from it, and to move forward. Personal growth involves setting yourself up for success. I can help you  get clear on what it is that you do want, set new goals and make sure you stay on track to attain your desired goals.

Goals can include finding a meaningful job, entering into a healthy relationship, creating a better self-care routine, etc. Knowing and understanding yourself better is important to be able to achieve your goals. How do you know what to look for in a spouse, if you don’t know what your own morals and values are? Will you be able to create a better self-care routine if you don’t know any positive coping skills? How will you be able to find a meaningful job if you don’t know what’s truly important to you? You can learn new tools, learn to stand up for yourself and be heard and seen for who you really are. From this place of empowerment, you can create a happier and more fulfilling life.

As mentioned earlier, personal growth includes EVERY aspect of a person’s life: their mental, physical, emotional, social and spiritual selves. Life can feel pretty directionless if you don’t know who you are in even one of these settings, let alone all of them. In personal growth therapy, you’ll be able to get back in touch with your true self and figure out how to create meaning in your life as you head into your future.
