How to Cultivate Emotional Intelligence

by | Mar 8, 2019 | Emotional Intelligence

We are continuing our March theme of emotional intelligence! Imagine remaining calm and steady when you are tempted to lose temper. See yourself being tolerant when another driver cuts you off. These are some of the signs of emotional intelligence.

Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize your own emotions and the emotions of others, and being able to use your emotional understanding to guide your thoughts and actions intelligently. Then you can wisely respond to what is happening so you can achieve your goal(s).

When you react to someone in a way that makes things worse or you might later regret, it may be because of what you experienced in your past. One of the keys to gaining mastery over your emotions is to go within and explore where that feeling comes from. If you can recall when you first felt this pain or anger, you can take therapeutic corrective measures to heal that wound and have an emotionally healthy intelligent response. When you learn how to break negative emotional patterns, you can make the changes that lead to emotional freedom.
